Project “Palestre
in autonomia”
Supporting individuals with mental, intellectual, or social disabilities through co-housing opportunities, enhancing community and independence.

THE CHALLENGE
Individuals with disabilities struggle to achieve independence and engage in the social life of their communities. The absence of sustainable housing models that merge autonomy, inclusion, and tailored support intensifies the challenge, affecting both them and their families, who often bear a heavy caregiving burden.
THE GOAL
The initiative seeks to establish cost-effective models that empower individuals to live in shared communities, prioritizing both personal and collective well-being. Personalized support plans will be designed to cater to the unique needs of each person and the group, while providing the freedom to choose living arrangements and locations within an inclusive framework.
THE IMPACT
Individuals with disabilities received assistance in performing everyday tasks, including waking up, personal hygiene, housekeeping, shopping, meal preparation, and planning recreational activities. Tailored training sessions, led by educators and caregivers, were designed to enhance their skills and maximize their autonomy. Positive outcomes included an increase in independent overnight stays, more leisure time for their families and improved social integration within the community.
