EU END-OF-LIFE-TIRE LEGISLATION

EU LEGISLATION IMPACTING ON ELT
EU Member States have to comply with the EU legislation when transposing the Directives into local regulation. Within the EU legislative framework, they are free to set national initiatives to reach the EU targets. In this light, the Landfill Directive (EC Directive 1999/31) has been a major driver for setting ELT management systems in Europe.

EXISTING ELT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Today within the EU there are three different systems for managing end of life tire:
Extended Producer Responsibility scheme
Free Market system
Tax System
The extended producer responsibility scheme is the most widely applied in Europe. Currently it is implemented in various forms in 21 countries.
