EXTENDED PRODUCER
RESPONSIBILITY (EPR) SCHEME

OBLIGATIONS
Within the EU countries implementing tire Extended Producers Responsibility schemes, tire manufacturers and importers are held responsible by national regulations for the appropriate management of end-of-life tire arisings. Obligations vary across EPR schemes but all entail collection and treatment of tires, reporting to the authorities and general public communication.

EXISTING EPR ARRANGEMENTS
EPR schemes allow for different arrangements available to tire manufacturers and importers to comply:
Single collective ELT management company (such as Portugal)
Multiple collective ELT management companies (such as France)
Multiple individual and collective management companies (such as Italy)

HOW IT WORKS
ELT management companies are mandated to collect and organise the treatment of an equivalent amount of the volumes of tires sold individually or collectively by the mandatory companies on the same year or the year before. The process is financed through an environmental contribution charged by ELT companies to the mandatory companies on tire sales.
